DALLAS, TX (February 19, 2014) – The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) will host its second annual Lone Star Legends Benefit Dinner on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at The Hilton Anatole in Dallas. During the gala event, 13 grants totaling $300,000 will be presented to region-based charities that champion causes pertaining to children, education and veterans. MHBT Inc. and CRC Insurance Services are the top sponsors for the event.
The event will feature a keynote address from Dr. Sandra Bond Chapman, founder and chief director of the Center for BrainHealth, which will discuss how the organization's Warrior Initiatives empower military service members through research and high performance brain training.
In addition, Thomas Curtin, CEO and chairman for CRC Insurance Services, will be recognized as the 2014 Lone Star Legend Honoree. Thomas Curtin has served on the board of many charitable organizations including Finance Council of the Birmingham Diocese, Magic Moments and The TumTum Tree, among others. During his time on these boards, Mr. Curtin has helped to raise over $7,000,000 for the children of Alabama.
"As the IICF enters its second year hosting the Lone Star Legends Benefit Dinner, I couldn't be more pleased to take a step back to see evidence of the tremendous impact the insurance community has in backing the dedicated work of local nonprofits," said Bill Henry, Chairman and CEO of MHBT Inc. and Chair of the IICF's Southeast Division. "Home-grown philanthropy provides a vital backbone and foundation for communities, and I look forward to seeing these organizations continue their work through the IICF's support."
In conducting its grant program, the IICF looks to reinvest the funds raised by a particular region back into that same region and its communities. Grants to be awarded at this year's dinner total $300,000 and will go to 13 community organizations based in Dallas and Austin, as well as Florida and Alabama. Grants range from $10,000 to $100,000 per organization and focus on areas including children, education and veterans.
To date, the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation has contributed more than $21 million in grants and 179,000 volunteer service hours to hundreds of community organizations across the country.
